Maplewood Residential has, with Michael Whelan’s leadership, over 40 years’ experience in the property and construction industry. Our Company has wide ranging experience across all sectors and we are a strong and reputable team within the industry.

The Maplewood Team has an acute knowledge of the industry and we are proactive in researching and implementing advances in construction techniques, sustainability and environmental friendliness, thus ensuring Maplewood Residential remain progressive, productive and at the forefront of the Irish Housing Sector.

Maplewood’s core business and expertise focuses on residential developments and over the last 4 decades has been a major player in the development of new housing estates in the Greater Dublin Area. Included in the portfolio are Rockville, Dublin 18, Knockrabo, Dublin 14,  Sion Hill Park, Drumcondra;  Ballycullen, Firhouse;  Newcastle Lyons, Newcastle;  Adamstown, Co. Dublin; Hazelhatch & Hazelwood, Celbridge;  Phoenix Mews, Castleknock and Herberton, Dublin 8.

Michael Whelan 

Michael Whelan was the founder and figurehead of the Maplewood Group. Over a period of 30 years, he brought the company forward from a small residential construction company in the 1970’s to one of Ireland’s leading businesses.

With over 40 years’ experience in the industry his sound business judgement and keen eye for development potential has enabled him to identify and acquire lands which will later become prime sites for residential and commercial development.

Well respected throughout the industry Michael is known as an astute businessman, who is open, accessible and honest.

Michael Whelan Jr BE(Civil)

Michael Whelan Jr, a civil engineer who had previously worked on medium to large scale civil projects in Ireland and abroad including the Cross City Tunnel in Sydney and The Karuah By-Pass, North Newcastle, NSW.

Michael, surrounded by the construction industry all his life, has an acute knowledge of the house building business and heads up the delivery of all residential developments undertaken by the group. Michael oversees and implements advances in construction techniques, sustainability and environmental friendliness, ensuring Capami remain progressive, productive and at the forefront of the Irish Housing Sector.

Michael also plays a key role in the expanding of the business into other fields, such as off-site construction, associated construction businesses, and non-residential development.

Alex Brett BE(Civil) MBA

Alex worked in banking for over 20 years specialising in asset finance including the structuring of finance for large scale property developments. He was CEO of a Lombard and Ulster in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Since 2003 he has worked in property development in Ireland and in Eastern Europe. His primary role in Maplewood is general management, sourcing new projects, project management and structuring finance.

Caitríona Flynn BSc (Hons) SCSI Assoc

Caitríona Flynn has worked in the property industry since 2000 and has wide ranging experience across all sectors of the industry including Residential sales & property management and Commercial property management.

She is responsible for the management of the Company’s commercial and residential portfolio, the planning, launch and marketing of new residential schemes and liaising with purchasers to bring sales to a completion.

Caitríona completed a BSc Property Studies Degree in 2007 and, on completion won the Anthony O’Neill Memorial Award for Acedemic Excellence.  She is an Associate Member of the Society of Chartered Surveryors of Ireland (SCSI) and of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

David O’Brien BA (Hons) FCA

David O’Brien is a fellow of the chartered accountants with an Honours BA in Accounting & Finance.

He worked for 10 years in one of Ireland’s top medium sized accounting practices as Audit Manager, specialising in a management accounts role looking after construction clients.  In 2004 he joined the Moritz Group to oversee their UK affairs as well as a number of their Irish based companies and the overall Group annual reporting.

Currently, David looks after the day to day activities of the Company as well as working on a number of future projects ensuring Capami Construction maintains its current growth in the construction sector.
